Social Anxiety and Depression - My Story So Far
Posted by anxiouswill in Anxiety Depression, Prescription Anxiety Drugs on April 30th, 2009
Anxiety and depression really took a hold of me. I went from being a really popular, outgoing lad to someone who hardly saw the light of day. At my lowest times spending days on end alone, hiding from the world. I was so outgoing - music festivals, social events and always out on the town or chilling with the lads. I could not have been happier.
I was working as a plumber when it all started - I had a great job, was fully qualified and on a decent wage. I worked on building sites in my area. I started to feel very nervous around the people I worked with - some I had known for several years previously. My thinking got out of control about how people were judging and viewing me. Id try to find work out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the site - I would dread every time I needed to leave the house I was working in. I would get weird feelings and signals from people that just seemed negative but I could not explain them.
Anybody reading who is a sufferer will know that there are many things which make up this sort of illness. Lots of different thoughts - usually negative, and just a total turnaround of your lifestyle.
It got to a point where my feelings got so unbearable that I started attending work less and less. I would spend days alone either trying to sleep or just replaying constant depressing thoughts In my head. I stopped calling my friends and did everything I could to avoid any kind of contact with other people. I knew my family were worried but I just did not know what to tell them.
I went through an extremely low patch and got to a point where it seemed there was no way out.
Although I have never been to a GP about my illness, I started doing a lot of research - there is some really great material out there to learn from. I found a very interesting book by ex sufferer Paul David ‘A Life at Last’ Really recommend you buy a copy - only ?19.99 so not bad!
In efforts to combat my feelings, I began to see what keeping fit could do for me. I would run probably 5- 6 times a week, some days running as much as 7km! I really started to enjoy it, and it really gave me something to focus on which was so nice. I really started to feel good after my sessions. It was like it tired me out in a way that made me feel fresh and good about myself - content, in a weird way. I was so used to doing nothing, moping around and just thinking about things far too much.
A year on and I definitely feel happier in myself. I’m building my confidence back up slowly, and I am thinking much more positively for a change. I wanted to share my experiences so far, I hope some of you can take away at least just a small part of my story and relate to it. If you would like to get in touch with me to talk please do so - I could even set you up with a fitness plan!
I am hoping to be writing a series of articles, highlighting more issues about my illness - let me know what you think!

Get Rid of Stress Using Feng Shui Posted By : Rebeca Rambal
Posted by anxiouswill in Anxiety Depression, Prescription Anxiety Drugs on April 30th, 2009
Nowadays, one of the biggest health concerns for people is stress. Stress can be the cause or mimic many other illnesses or disorders and should be avoided as much as possible. Of course, it’s easier said than done.
You can’t just magically say, “No more stress in my life! I’m going to relax!”
You can help yourself in many ways: meditating, doing yoga, eating better, exercising… but if you are anything like me, you don’t always find the time or the energy to do all that. But, there is one thing that you can do that will help you enormously. You can actually get rid of stress using Feng Shui.
Your surroundings have a lot to do with the way you feel, therefore, if your home or office is cluttered and basically a mess, you will be stressed. Just thinking, “Gee, I need to clean up this place, I can’t find anything”, drains you of vital energy. Why have that on top of the everyday stress over which we have no control? In other words, no clutter around you means no clutter in your mind. Organizing your surroundings will help you organize your thoughts. That’s part of the philosophy of Feng Shui.
Start little by little and room by room. Don’t think you have to dedicate a whole weekend to do this. You can start working on the area where you spend most of your time, or the Feng Shui area that interests you the most. Let’s say, your home office.
That mountain of papers or books or bills has to be driving you crazy! Let’s start with the papers. Go to your favorite store and get a couple of baskets, or decorative boxes. You can buy cheap gift boxes at the drugstore. Use your Feng Shui Principles and get them in the colors that correspond to an important area in your office. Maybe purple. Later, you will put it in the Wealth Area of either your desk or your office or cubicle.
Now, sit down on the floor with all the papers in front of you. Have a trash can handy. Now, sort! Throw away what you don’t need. Really force yourself to get rid of everything you have no use for. Then keep what you need in the box or boxes you bought and label them.
That’s how you start. You will feel some stress melting away immediately. I would be very surprised if by then, you are not inspired to go a little further and tackle the books, the bills and the rest of the mess.
If you need a bookcase or drawers or something to help you, don’t think you have to wait until you can buy “the perfect piece”. Run to the thrift shop and get something affordable. I will tell you later about anoter great stress reliever. Just make sure you clean it well.
Think that if you put everything in its place once, it will be so much easier to maintain from then on.
Remember, that once you decide to introduce Feng Shui into your life, you can implement it slowly and at your own pace so you won’t get overwhelmed. There is so much to learn and so much to do. But it’s worth it, so just start doing it.
That is the way to start getting rid of stress by using Feng Shui.
Stress and Panic Attacks Posted By : Shawnna McMains

Most of us lead very hectic lives. We work full time, our kids these days seem to be in all kinds of activities such as soccer and piano lessons. Then, we come home and try to make sure our family eats a good meal, then off to do who knows what until you crash into bed exhausted, only to wake up to the same routine all over again. Where is the ?”ME?” time. There just isn?’t time for me anymore. No wonder so many people are stressed.
Stress can be a major cause of panic attacks. If not dealt with, it can have a major impact on our life, like panic attacks, but, if left for a prolonged period of time, even worse things can happen like damage to your health or death.
You?’re saying, well, yeah, I have a ton of stress in my life; there is no time for me to go on a vacation, or even to the spa.
Here?’s what I suggest. To reduce stress, you don?’t need to take a lot of time. Just a few minutes here or there can do wonders.
? During your lunch hour, exercise for 20 minutes
? Do breathing exercises for 5 ?- 10 minutes. While doing this, clear your mind of all things that you need to do and think of something pleasant. This should bring you some peace and relieve some of your stress.
? Go outside for some fresh air. Even 5 minutes can do wonders.
? Listen to soothing music such as classical or meditative sounds like ocean surf or nature.
? Take up Yoga or Tai Chi
? Take a few minutes to call a dear friend and just catch up
? Take time to do a fun activity with your kids, like playing ball or a board game
If you are under a lot of stress, try to follow some of my stress relievers from above and see if that helps out your stress level. If it doesn?’t, try talking to a friend, loved one or professional to see what suggestions they may have. Remember, we have one go at this life and I don?’t think that ?”Stress?” is a good reason to leave this world.
Special relationship or suspicious relationship? Posted By : Binna Kandola
Posted by anxiouswill in Anxiety Depression, Prescription Anxiety Drugs on April 30th, 2009
The occasion of Gordon Brown?’s first meeting with Barack Obama since the latter?’s inauguration makes you wonder about the nature of the so called ?”special relationship?” between the two countries and how it will fare in the hands of the two leaders.
First of all it should be noted that they do share several personality characteristics in common. Both are highly analytical, long-term, strategic thinkers. In addition, they are both values driven and have a good understanding of what they believe in and stand for.
They also share some shortcomings. Their strengths in analysis make it difficult for them to make spontaneous decisions and as a result this can be an area where they can get unstuck. There is also a tendency for both men to become somewhat aloof under pressure.
But there are also considerable differences. Brown, for example, is confident, has a great ability to focus and as a result is able to get things done. His belief in his own abilities though can make him appear arrogant and at times perhaps even rather strident. He is naturally mistrustful and rather suspicious of others but also has a need for control. Empathy is not something that comes easily to him.
Obama on the other hand works to understand others and to persuade them. He is able to see others?’ perspective and generally has a far more open style. Interestingly there is anxiety here too, in particular a fear of failure and under pressure he can become judgmental and withdrawn. Obama?’s openness to feedback, argument and ideas to others?’ styles of working certainly makes him a more complete leader.
How will they work together? Well, they don?’t seem to be an ideal working combination. On the other hand how closely do they really have to work with each other? The first meeting of the two as leaders will be mannered and studied. Brown will want to be seen as a peer and not as a lapdog. This natural suspiciousness will probably get in the way of establishing strong bonds. The relationship, as far as we can tell, will be one of wariness and personal distance.
The context of the meeting is also important. Brown is beleaguered, behind in the polls and with his government?’s competence being questioned. Obama on the other hand is charismatic, popular and seen as a welcome breath of fresh air.
Their personality styles then do not auger well for the special relationship. If it is to flourish Obama must make Brown feel like an equal in private as well as in public. He will need to follow through on commitments and see their relationship as mutually beneficial.
The area which provides hope is their values. The way they view the world appears to be very similar. If they can agree on what they jointly want to achieve, which is certainly possible, then their personality differences will not present such a great issue.

The results which are based on over 7,000 case studies closely coincided with many other scientific evidence showing direct connection between the activity of the right brain or luck of it, with feelings of stress, anxiety and depression.
Since 1999 Erik Valdman has been teaching an Active Inner Energy Meditation which has proven to almost instantly change the practitioners life’s perspective from reducing stress and feeling afraid or depressed to a state of self confidence, power and awareness.
Without the need to meditate by sitting in a lotus posture. Without the need to focus, clear your mind or repeat a mantra. Without even the need for a quiet place. Truly effortless. Erik’s students practice Inner Energy Secrets active form of meditation in the subway on their way to work, at the office or at home.
?”It takes fifteen minutes and you have your confidence and power back?” says one of the students.
Inner Energy Secrets is based on integrating ancient knowledge and modern science. It’s goal is simple, receive high levels of inner energy and than simply rely on your body’s abilities to awaken the self regulatory mechanism to overcome your emotional challenges such as helplessness, luck of confidence, stress, anxiety, and depression. We all have those abilities, but do not know how to access them yet.
The truth is that Inner Energy Secrets does much more then to reduce stress, bring inner peace and calmness. In as little as in a week time, most students discover something very interesting, their life perspective begins to change. Other people begin to to notice a difference and life quickly takes a turn in the right direction.
?”In Inner Energy Secrets we have much greater goal than simply to relax, relaxation and inner power becomes a mere byproduct of a sudden awakening of our hidden potential, everyone has it…learn to awaken your inner power, or live your life struggling, it’s your choice?” … Erik Valdman
