As much as 20% of the United States population suffer from some sort of mental illness and one of the most commonly diagnosed ones is anxiety disorder. Millions of Americans suffer from depression, anxiety, stress and may even have a panic attack as a result. Anxiety disorder can cause a person to be very fearful and to worry about everything including having irrational worries and thoughts. When this happens they cannot live a normal, happy, and healthy life so they need professional help.
Panic attacks are the most commonly reported anxiety disorder symptoms. When you have a panic attack, fear and worry take over your brain and your body responds with physical symptoms to match. A panic attack usually happens suddenly and without warning but only lasts around fifteen minutes in most cases.
We all have worries and fears that we get overly focused on in our lives and that is perfectly normal. Even your doctor will tell you that worrying and being fearful and stressed from time to time is nothing to be concerned about. Anxiety disorder is when you have extremely severe worries and fears and the symptoms persist for as long as six months or more. If this happens then your doctor may want to talk to you about your anxiety and do some tests.
Anxiety disorders cause your body to respond to the fear and worry by producing physical symptoms. Your body starts to respond as if you were in severe danger or under attack. That causes your body to produce hormones that then in turn cause your lungs, your heart and your other organs to start working harder and even frantically. The adrenaline hormones cause you to have some physical anxiety attack symptoms that can be severe.
Anxiety disorder produces many different physical symptoms including stomach pain, diarrhea, dry mouth, a racing heart and a tight feeling in the chest, chest pain that feels like a heart attack, difficulty catching your breath, frequent urination, dizziness and trouble swallowing. These anxiety attack symptoms can be very overwhelming during a panic attack. Anxiety disorders also cause mental and emotional symptoms like trouble sleeping, irritability, lack of concentration, irrational fears and worries like the fear of dying and other extreme fears.
Everyone is at risk for having an anxiety disorder and panic attacks, even celebrities and well-known people. One reason for the increase in cases of anxiety disorder could be the easy access to drugs and alcohol in our society. People who suffer from this condition find it hard to live a normal life and do normal things so they should attempt to get treatment as soon as they can.
