Anxiety is the tension created in our body & mind due to future uncertainties or threats. Fretfulness is not always wrong rather it can be used creatively if understood properly.

It has become a common notion that anxiety is wrong. If one tries to relax in a state of nervousness, it can be more harmful & can lead to more tension. A repressed anxiety leads to panic attacks. It becomes a vicious circle to be afraid of the future & develop into worry. Anxiety brings more fear & fear creates more anxiety. Anxiety in some emergency situation is the way of the nature to protect us from the upcoming threat. But when it becomes a regular habit, something is wrong.
?
Our physiology plays a big role in forming our habit patterns. Man is a body-mind phenomenon. What we eat reflects in our mind & what we think, reflects in our body. Our breathing also affects our body & mind. By a little change in breathing, we can change our habit patterns of anxiety.
?
We take breaths differently when we are angry. We breathe another way when we are feeling sexual. Like wise we take breaths very shallow, when we are in anxiety. We can change our inhalation practice & many things changes automatically. Anxiety is a habit & breathing in a way is also a tendency. We can break the wrong practice of breathing & in turn can break the vicious circle of anxiety.
?
When we were children, we did not have any anxiety or fear. We have learned something through our upbringing & social conditioning, which has become a habit mold. Breaking this habit pattern is very easy. Just we have to change our breathing process.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is a type of meditation that has been significantly refined through the Buddhist tradition and is currently enjoying international popularity due to the increased interest in Buddhism worldwide.

Mindfulness is a mental state characterized by complete awareness of the present moment.  Mindfulness meditation brings one’s attention to what is happening in the now - the existing moment.  By doing this, practitioners come to see both internal and external phenomena as nothing but aspects of the mind.

For example, we all experience “chatter” in the mind.  Indeed, it seems the mind is continuously chattering and making judgments on perceived phenomena. By noticing this activity of the mind, while it is happening, you can observe those thoughts without attachment and aversion to them, thus bringing about the state of non-judgment. Through non-judgment one is enable to release thoughts and recognize them for what they are ??” simply thoughts.  This aids in bringing one to the state of “no mind”, sometimes called “big mind”.

If you’re lost by now, don’t worry.  There are plenty of websites online whereby you can further your understanding of mindfulness meditation.

Mindfulness meditation does not have to be constrained to a formal meditation session but can be performed anywhere at any moment.  One can even use external stimuli as a springing board to jump into the meditation, such as a red stop light.

Try this: the next time you are driving in your car and you come to a red traffic signal, let that red light be your starting point for a quick mindfulness meditation right there in your vehicle.  Simply become aware of the present moment ??” as each moment comes to you.  Drop the past, don’t think about the future.  Just be in the now.  That, my friends, is mindfulness meditation, pure and simple.

Spiritual Coaching

Posted by anxiouswill in Prescription Anxiety Drugs on June 18th, 2009

Spiritual coaching is not a new idea but rather an ancient ideal given new form.
In ancient times,
and even now in tribal cultures, when a person experienced emotional or spiritual challenges, village elders would come together to offer him or her some advice, moral support and guidance to help the individual overcome difficulties.  In our current fast-paced life we may not have the needed support structure of our family or communities, but spiritual coaching is still available.

If one belongs to a religious community, the leaders of such a community often act as spiritual coaches in times of need.  Others may seek a sort of spiritual coaching from support groups like a 12 Step Program.  Still, there may be others who benefit from reading self-help books and attending the seminars and workshops of the authors.

Currently there are life coaches who approach coaching holistically - dealing with mind, body and soul, whereas in previous decades emphasis was laid on career and interpersonal relationships.

Spiritual coaches are trained to see their clients as more than just a body coupled with a mind, but as spiritual beings having physical experiences.  It is this spiritual component that gives spiritual coaching its name and differentiates it from other forms of coaching.

This new millennium is seeing a sort of mass spiritual awakening in people all across the globe and hence a new type of coaching that addresses the spiritual needs of clients is being called for.
