Self help tools market has always been a very active and attractive market in any industry. Self help anxiety disorder is no exception. Yet what we are going to do in this article is try to better understand the term “Self Help.

Self help is like saying you don’t need a professional to help you.
Instead of paying all those amounts for professionals, you can pay only a fraction of that and do it on your own. In many cases I am really skeptical about this. But I can understand the benefits in some areas.

For example we know that people respond to information in different ways. There are people who are more auditory; therefore, hearing lecture for them is more effective than reading a book.

There are what NLP call the kina-esthetics who understand and grasp concepts more through feelings and touch. Therefore, the coaching style with hands on experience is more effective with these people.

The last are the visual people, who learn better visually. For them reading and visual aids like slides, graphs and pictures are the best method for them to learn and understand.

The first reason for me to understand the value of self help is because of this difference in the way people are able to learn, understand and improve.

The second reason is that we realize that in some areas there could be no other way but self help. Meaning, that there are areas that the objective cannot be met except through self help tools, and there is nothing and no one can do it for you.

Let us take for example the self help anxiety disorder programs. Medication is the only anxiety solution method that is not a self help tool. That is if we can take medication as a solution.

Therapy in its essence is helping or guiding the person to make his/her own self discovery as a method for recovery. Self help anxiety disorder programs do just that. Of course, there are some steps and techniques that would guide the person into such discovery and eventually recovery.

We say medication in not an anxiety solution, because it fails to solve the root problem. It merely suppresses the symptoms. It has its good applications, but for sure it is not a long term solution.

When we search for self help anxiety disorder solutions we need to make sure that what catches our attention is not the hyped language. We need to make sure that such programs are credible and effective.
