Most people know what anxiety feels like. It’s the feeling we get when we’re getting ready to speak in front of a group of people, the jittery dance in our stomach waiting to see how we scored on an important exam, or the pounding in our chest when we get behind the wheel of a car for the first time.
Anxiety happens to all of us from time to time. It’s not unusual to feel tense or frightened when we are under a lot of pressure or facing a stressful situation. In the right conditions, anxiety can propel us to action and help us find solutions to some of our problems.
Anxiety is like an alarm that goes off whenever we feel threatened or we find ourselves too far beyond our zone of comfort.
When our anxieties extend the boundaries of natural preservation and become panic attacks, they can affect our health and our mental well being. We might feel as though we are having a heart attack. We may have trouble breathing or feel disoriented and out of control. We may find ourselves always fearful that something bad is going to happen.
We may even understand that we are experiencing a panic attack but, we may not know that there are ways we can reduce or even eliminate these unreasonable feelings.
A few things that might help us overcome panic attacks and anxiety include; learning about panic, the more we know about it, the easier it is to recognize the signs and symptoms.? Avoid cigarettes, coffee and caffeinated beverages when we begin to feel panic. Learn how to control our breathing and calm ourselves by practicing some relaxation techniques.
Life is too short to spend it in a state of unnecessary anxiety and panic attacks and it’s good to know there are solutions to these problems.
