How is Anxiety Treated?
Posted by anxiouswill in Prescription Anxiety Drugs on March 21st, 2010
There are successful treatments available for all forms of anxiety. You need to know that anxiety itself can be caused by trauma, chemical imbalances, or a genetic predisposition, to name a few. The common thread to all levels of anxiety is irrational fear and excessive worry. For some people fear and worry combine to a paralyzing extent. For others, the combination makes life a very long, uncomfortable journey. Each of these levels is treated differently, but each can be treated successfully.
People with mild disorders should consider trying a combination of regular exercise, relaxation techniques and a modified diet before entering into therapy. Exercise stimulates an all over sense of well being. Relaxation techniques provide a way to help keep anxiety levels low. A diet rich in omega 3 and leafy green vegetables relaxes the body naturally. Severe cases should seek professional help.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a well known professional treatment. It teaches a person how to stop an irrational thought process before an attack of anxiety can begin. It is widely used because of its success rate.
Treatment may also include a number of different prescription medications to ease the symptoms while undergoing therapy. The benzodiazepines are a class of quick acting drugs with sedative and muscle relaxants useful in treating anxiety. Antipsychotic drugs can be useful at the onset of an attack or taken on a schedule as a preventative. When prescribed, antidepressants must be administered daily because they must build up in the system over time to be effective. Medication to control blood pressure may also be recommended.
