The 20 Second Method to Deal With Panic Attacks
Posted by anxiouswill in Prescription Anxiety Drugs on February 11th, 2010
Panic attacks can be devastating on one’s life and career. One of the worst things anyone who suffers from these attacks can do is to not seek treatment. Anxiety attacks can wreak havoc on you emotionally and physically if you don’t seek help in trying to deal with and overcome them. A simple yet very effective way you can begin to cope with anxiety attacks is by using a simple 20 second method.
The 20 second method works on the basis that you give your attack 20 seconds to do the worst it can. Many anxiety attack sufferers believe that their panic attack will cause some permanent physical harm or damage to their body. So, you tell your panic attack that it has 20 seconds to do whatever physical harm it is that you are worried it will cause. If your heart is going to explode then it will explode within this time. If you are going to pass out then it will happen within 20 seconds. I am sure by now you know what I mean. The next time you suffer from an attack, give it 20 seconds to do its worst. Countdown slowly from 20 until you reach zero and allow the episode enough time to run its course.
Just why is this method meant to be effective? It is effective because it gives you something you need badly but lack during anxiety attacks, control. You are setting the rules and are putting yourself on the path to gaining control over an attack. By simply counting down from 20 to zero places you in the position of control over the attack and not at its mercy. Don’t rush when you count. It may not be an exact 20 seconds, and that is not the main focus of this method. Take your time and count slowly down from 20. The more you practice this the more you will discover that you aren’t going to die and that your attack is nothing more than a physical sensation. You will slowly but surely begin to gain control of yourself and your attack as time goes on.
Most people use simple breathing exercises that teach them how to cope with their attacks and not how to overcome them. By using this method you are instead facing your greatest fear and putting yourself one step closer to one day being entirely free from attacks. The only way you will ever be free of attacks is to face them and deal with them head on.

If you suffer from anxiety and panic disorders, leading a normal life is very difficult to say the least. The majority of people that suffer from panic attacks see every situation that presents itself to them as a possible threat, and they end up living their life trying to avoid anything that could lead to confrontation or arguments.?Being able?to overcome anxiety and panic attacks may scare the hell out of you, and lead to another attack, but I’ll tell you it can be done.
I can certainly relate to people that suffer from these disorders, as I have had my fair share of anxiety issues in my time, but thankfully there are ways to deal with anxiety and panic so you can eventually be freed from the burden of them.
For most people the onset of an attack of anxiety leads them straight to the doctors office, for something for immediate relief. Doctors will generally give you a prescription for some drugs to help with the symptoms, but what happens as you keep taking these drugs, you will begin to realize that not only are they making your condition worse, but they also make it harder for you to stop taking the medication, so you end up doing more harm to your mind and body. The reasons why you are having these attacks, the reason why your mind is escalating these situations too full blown panic mode, all these situations can not be corrected by the use of medicaitons. The only thing that medication will do for you is provide you with temporary relief when you get the nervous feeling, or when you heart starts racing out of control.
Being able to overcome anxiety and panic attacks is very doable. The first step is to accept that you have a?minor flaw, a?flaw that doesn’t allow you to perceive certain situations in the right way. Instead of?focusing on?what is happening in your body, when your mind is triggered, focus on reliving that moment when you mind triggered your body to react the way it did, do this over and over, until your mind learns to look at things calmly.
Every new situation you encounter, should be faced as a a new opportunity to challenge your mind, to learn how to develop the ability to work out different situations through proper analysis. Once your mind learns how to do this be able to overcome anxiety and panic attacks will be a breeze for you, since you won’t have to anymore.
Now pay close attention,
