Unfortunately, there are plenty of people in this world who suffer from anxiety, most of whom use anti anxiety medication to combat their problems. While these medications do offer a solution, they can be very addicting. If you know that you have a very addictive personality and wish to combat your anxiety with something other than medication, there are a lot of other options out there which offer long term solutions.

The problem with all of these anti anxiety medications is that they do not offer a permanent solution to your problem; they just allow you to slip away from it for a few hours. You need a natural remedy to fix your anxiety.

Exercise: A good work out has been proven to reduce stress levels and anxiety. This is especially true in women, as studies have shown that a woman is less likely to be anxious after some rigorous exercise.

Relaxation Techniques: Two of the best ways to relax are through meditation and yoga. The best part about these activities is that they are completely natural and great for your body. I highly recommend signing up for yoga classes in your town.

Vitamin B: A lot of the time, people who tend to be anxious a lot do not have enough Vitamin B in their diet. Vitamin B helps the body to relax and deal with stress. If you would like more Vitamin B intake either eat more leafy greens or take a supplement.

If you do suffer from anxiety, it is important that no matter what you are going through you have a positive mind set. A lot of the time, anxiety is just a problem with your view on certain situations. Make sure you keep a positive outlook and you will recover faster than if you have a negative outlook.

Very high levels of anxiousness can result in anxiety attacks. So it is always better to control the anxiousness level. However if you have started having panic attacks then you will have to find out what is making you hyper anxious. This will help to cure anxiety attacks effectively.

Here are some not so common treatments that are used to overcome anxiety attacks:

1) Counseling is a way to make you relaxed and free of worries. These anti-anxiety sessions will also help in finding the real cause for your attacks. Sometimes these sessions may help you in finding the cause for attacks in a few days and at times it can take several months.

2) Another less used method to cure anxiety disorder is hypnosis. You will need to be trained by a seasoned and professional hypnotist to achieve good results. This method basically involves programming your subconscious in such a way so that you can handle any panic situation or event.

3) A popular technique that is being used to reduce stress and anxiety is based on a method called brain entertainment technology. According to this technology your brain can be trained in a specific way that will help in effectively managing stress, tension and anxiety. In this method you will hear stereo music. The frequency of music coming from the two different earphones helps your brain create a third frequency that helps to cure anxiety attacks.

4) Yet another method that is used to make you think differently is meditation. In this method all your attention and focus is on something that is positive. You regularly practice to train your mind to think about that positive thing. This thought can be something simple like throwing out toxins when you exhale and inhaling healing energy to cure anxiety attacks. So the focus here is on breath to throw out toxins and inhale healing energy.

Measuring and Assessing Your Anxiety Levels

Posted by anxiouswill in Prescription Anxiety Drugs on September 02nd, 2009

The Hamilton anxiety rating scale (HARS) was created as a tool to be used by doctors and therapists to assess the severity of a patient’s anxiety. The system used is a 14 point questionnaire that covers each of the possible symptoms a patient may experience. The first thirteen of these questions are answered by the patient based upon interviews and questions asked, whereas the last question is used by the therapists to show how they feel the patient is actually doing.

The HARS was developed in 1959 by Max Hamilton as a way to help measure a patients anxiety levels at both the psychic or mental level and the somatic or physical level. Adolescents, children and old people have all been shown to be suitable candidates. Hamilton created a list of physical and mental symptoms after using factor analysis to create a list of overall symptoms.

The patient is questioned by a therapist or doctor and his or her answers are then graded from 0-4, with 4 representing the highest level of anxiety. All the scores are totalled and this total is then used to give the therapist an idea of the patient’s mental state. There are 7 questions that are focused on the mental aspects of a patients condition and a further 7 focusing on the physical aspects.

After adding up the results, it is felt that if a person has a score of less than 17 that this person only has mild anxiety which can be easily treated with therapy. Sometimes this can be misleading. Many people will try to mask their true feeling out of embarrassment. It takes a well trained therapist to coax the real answers out and to be able to make an accurate diagnosis. Moderate anxiety is indicated by scores of 18-24 and can be helped if the patient applies techniques such as breathing correctly or meditation. If the patient scores over 25 then they have a high degree of anxiety. This level of anxiety may require medication to help bring the anxiety under control well enough that the patient can then learn to use relaxation techniques and programs like CBT overcome their anxieties once and for all.

The test is a useful tool in understanding how anxious a patient is but it should be borne in mind that the results are likely to be influenced by the skill of the therapist. The questions themselves are designed not only to reflect the answers from the patient but also how the therapist feels about the answers. Although not perfect, the evidence suggests that the test is a reasonably good indicator of a patient’s anxiety. One area of ambiguity is the tendency for depressed patients to tend to score highly.

Despite the possibility of skewed results, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale is still the most popular test used to evaluate patients in use today. Over the years it has been shown to provide the most accurate results on a consistent basis. Combined with the correct type and degree of treatment, many people are able to cure themselves of this debilitating condition.
