How Do We Know Which Anxiety Treatments Work?

Posted by anxiouswill in Prescription Anxiety Drugs on March 28th, 2010

Having lived with panic attacks and generalized anxiety for a number of years I have tried lots of different remedies. Each and every one of us is different, how we react to our symptoms, what causes our problems and how we treat them. These are some of the anxiety treatments that I have tried and what has worked for me.

Tranquilizers give quick relief from the symptons a panic attack but for me left me too sleepy to do anything.

Anti-depressants gave me respite from the symptoms, my doctor described them as “nonchalance” pills and he is right, I always felt like it didn’t really matter when things went wrong rather than the all consuming panic that I was used to. Anti-depressants gave me the space I needed to look at my life, cope with therapy and put things into practice. Unfortunately I found it tough to live without them and became convinced that I could only cope with life if on anti-depressants.

Natural remedies such as Rescue Remedy and Kalms did not do anything for me at all.

I tried CBT and although I found it a great help I realised that one hour once a week was not enough, I needed my therapist with me all the time to guide me through all of the traumas I went through each week. It wasn’t enough for me to go in, say what had happened, examine how I reacted and discuss what I should do next time, each week threw different challenges at me and each week I felt unable to cope on my own. I needed a way to cope every day.

Since I had my first Panic Attack years ago all I wanted was to be “normal” I wanted to be able to deal with each situation that life threw at me in a “normal” way - not over reacting, not shaking, sweating with palpitations just take it all in my stride, like I had done years before.

“Normal” was my goal, anti-depressants were helping me give the impression of normality, most people had no idea what was happening with me but I wanted more than that; I wanted my life back. I began to research anxiety treatments in depth; how to cure anxiety for good. In the end I decided that self help was the way forward. The way I looked at it was, who was with me all the time to guide me through everything that was happening, who knew exactly how I felt and what my symptoms were, and who did I most want to please, the answer was simple. Me. If I could find a way to guide myself through this I could do it.

It took me time to find what I was looking for, and once I found it, it was tough. I’m not going to pretend that there is a quick miracle cure out there. There is no easy answer and there were stumbles along the way. But I have got there and if I need help, I am always there for me. Days when I felt sorry for myself I could decide whether I needed a kick in the butt or some sympathy, I usually would give myself a bit of both. With an excellent self help plan I recovered.

So to answer the question, how do we know what anxiety treatments work? The answer is individual, but if you want a permanent cure, then you need to look at the root of the issue and not just deal with the symptoms. The best person to help you is you.

How to Cure Anxiety & Panic

I have been a great proponent that life is what you make it. I do believe that we all create our own life situations and reality by our thoughts, emotions and beliefs! As such, I tend to rely on my own resources to overcome many of life’s difficulties. Relying on medications and prescriptions to overcome many “brought on” conditions is alien to me - now!

But I did not come to these beliefs early in life. Although my parents brought me up to be self-sufficient, I was brought up in the age when great advances in medicine promised cures for just about everything. I believed in their claims, and adopted many remedies for situations that I now know could have been treated with other more natural methods.

While I don’t expect everyone to share my beliefs on this subject, I think it would be unfair if I didn’t at least shed a bit of light on what those alternatives might be.

In the 1970’s just after I got married my wife developed some anxiety attacks. These were quite alarming at times and more than once while driving I had to pull over or get off a highway so she could get a drink of water and walk around outside until we could proceed.

She went to her doctor about this and was prescribed pills. The pills did provide her with some relief but also had the inevitable side-effects. I hate that term because they are really “direct effects”. It’s just that while the key malady for the pill’s development may be relieved, there are many other cell receptors that pick up on the drug and have other effects as well. Nevertheless, they are direct effects from taking the drug.

In any case, my readings and musings and life experience have well convinced me that there are many other ways to overcome the results of many of the lifestyle habits that most of us have acquired, to some degree or another.

Recently I read some information about anxiety and panic attacks which caused my interest due to my wife’s previous bouts with the condition. One of the methods used is the Linden Method. It’s a natural drug-free method for overcoming most of the phobia relating to panic and anxiety attacks.

Given that our lifestyles and society today seem to give rise to numerous unwanted conditions that are a direct effect of just plain living, I thought it would be a good opportunity to start some intelligent discussion on the subject of “patient, heal thyself”.

Yes modern day medicine does have its place, but allopathic medicine really is not the entire answer. We need to examine the cause of many of our conditions and start treating the cause rather than the symptoms.

The Linden Method treats the cause and that’s why it’s over 96% effective. No wonder they can give a 100% guarantee.

I hope to publish more of these types of articles in the future, but if you suffer from anxiety and panic and REALLY want to stop it, you should look at the Linden Method. A great alternative to drugs!

I know, anxiety attacks are probably the most frustrating thing a person can go through. I have experienced them myself and never want to again. If you want to get rid of your anxiety attacks and live happier life then I am glad you are here and reading this. I will do whatever I need to do to help you succeed because I have been there and experienced everything you are experiencing. The truth is, you do not need to suffer from the physical symptoms of anxiety any longer and I am going to show you exactly how you can stop your attacks safely and easily.

The first thing you need to do is recognize what your goal is. Right now your goal is to stop having anxiety attacks and cure them for good.

Next, you need to realize that the second you believe the lies that anxiety attacks can not be cured you make it that much harder on yourself to actually cure your physical symptoms of anxiety.

Now I want you to think about what your life would be like if you no longer suffered from anxiety attacks. Think about how much more stress free you would be.

If you want to cure your panic attacks you need to take action. And by taking action I do not mean you need to go to your doctor to see what kind of pills he recommends. Pills are not the answer to getting rid of anxiety. The best way for you to get rid of your anxiety is to practice self relaxation techniques.

Feeling a little uncomfortable and jittery when facing a big crowd is just normal. Of course, the body cannot help but react that way, especially when it feels a little stressed and pressured. When a person would experience this each time he goes to a social event, though, it could already mean that something is not right and that you are suffering from a disorder.

If you are experiencing certain social anxiety symptoms, you may be scared to face crowds and talk to them. There are many reasons as to why you are facing such problems. This may be for fear of having mistakes or getting humiliated in front of so many people.

It is a good thing, though, that there are already many ways by which you can treat your social anxiety. Of course, you can take in pills to help you calm down and think things clearly. However, doctors are already taking a precaution with this type of treatment because it can lead the patient to become dependent on the drugs. Later on, the user may not realize that there is already an overdose in the medications.

Now, you can also treat your social anxiety symptoms using other methods. These methods have been proven by experts to be very effective and although the changes do not happen overnight, it can still guarantee results over time. You would also need to work with an expert when you undergo these treatments to ensure that it is done right. Otherwise, a wrong move could make your condition worse and it may lead you to further depression and fear of crowds.

Are you fed up and stressed out from waiting for the next panic attack to occur. The medicines and pills the doctors give you barely help you and just mask the symptoms. Some are addictive and they have side effects as well.

Some medicines can turn you into a zombie in the attempt to prevent these attacks. If you do not take action to stop them besides taking medication then they will not stop and the attacks and symptoms can drive you to desperation.

Whenever you feel the symptoms coming on one way of dealing with them is with panic attack breathing techniques. These will help to get the attacks under control and even stop them. These methods work by using deep breathing to help you relax.

These breathing techniques can be found in yoga, meditation and self hypnosis. You do not have to be a quiet environment to use them either. Once you know how to do them you can use them in a car or at home and they do help you not only cope with these attacks but can help you as part of panic attack cures.

This is just one method to help you to cope. There are many other techniques that do work and homeopathic remedies use many of them to help you to gain relief from these awful episodes which take over your whole life.

Thousands of people every day find relief and even stop these attacks by using homeopathic remedies and they do work.

If you are looking for a way to stop these attacks use homeopathic remedies. This is guaranteed to work and give you your life back.
